The challenge of development and redressing     marginalization in N.E.P

 By: Mohamed kutuby

      Kutuby45@hotmail.com

With the development program in question mark northeasterners are worried of the political unrest in the country, Northeastern is the way it was during the independence and only few was done to improve the situation of the people living in this marginalized part of the world.

But what is the problem of Northeastern province? There is no region too poor to harness its local assets to earn something, what our people in this region need is technology, this pastoral tribe can develop livestock and earn millions from supplying meat and other animal products to the agricultural tribes, the cities and even for export, the area is said to having petroleum but who will exploit it for this poor people?. Despite all this wealth northeastern is the least developed in the country.

The money collected from the "animal markets' in the region is enough to change the area unfortunately these millions end up into the pockets of corrupted local authorities. The area Mps are squarely blamed for this underdevelopment and the suffering of these people because the are not united over the development programs as each one of them is there only for his own interest and the Garissa-mandera highway project may collapse due to their laziness, may be the newly elected honorables are different as most of them are new and active gentle men among the is hon. farah ma'alim who is eager to change the region and because the so called "old dogs" are nowhere to be seen this means that Northeasterners have understood their interest late to vote for change noting that the problems are caused by the absence of real leadership. In the previous years the people who were representing us failed the general population of NEP and were only implementing what the Government orders them to do we hope they are not repeating the same mistake again, we are not ready to be enslaved, mistreated and marginalized again enough is enough, no more emergency law and no more leta kitambulisho in Northeastern province.

We don’t have the leverage to benefit or even share the national cake {resources} with the rest of the country, The government had refused and failed to develop the region since the independent in 1963, why should we believe they will do now? The only thing we got from the Kenya government is killing of thousands of innocent civilians in Garissa, Wajir and Mandera in the excuse of maintaining law and order in the area! Our right were violated by the same government for decades and therefore its our duty to educate our people why its important to develop ourselves without depending on such governments, please do not be deceived that time has not arrived yet  and wait for no one else you can make difference yourself.

      massacres

 we don't forget

My grandfather died an old, bitter blind man. He was very poor only living in the memory of the past days of plenty

  Number of massacres

A historical timeline of massacres committed against the Kenyan Somalis and sanctioned by the Kenya Security forces.

horrors of the Wagalla

On February 15, 1984, it was the scene of what could easily be the most bloody massacre in post-Independence Kenya.
